Biography
Leeanne McKenna was born in the Calton in the East End of Glasgow in December 1989. She spent much of her childhood in the home of her grandparents, Frank and Margaret, where she was encouraged to draw as much as possible, mostly on the back of her grandfathers bookie slips. At the age of 17, she applied to study Painting & Printmaking BA(Hons) at the Glasgow School of Art.
In her second year of the course, she met two of her best friends, Jessica Ironside and Amanda Dobbratz who had just graduated from the M(Res) in Creative Practices also at GSA. She became involved with Amanda and Jessie's project IRONBBRATZ and after Jessie had to return to Canada in her third year, Leeanne helped Amanda to establish IRONBBRATZ Studios in 84 Miller Street in the heart of Glasgow's City Centre. It now houses 40 studios for creative practitioners and a gallery space to run exhibitions from.
Now that Leeanne has graduated from GSA, her intention is to devote her time to sustaining her practice as an artist and writer and help Amanda keep IRONBBRATZ going from strength to strength.
